DIY Paper Flowers

Every Christmas I like to get in a couple of DIY projects and this year I went paper flower crazy!  It started with updating the wall above our dining table.  I made this wreath you saw here above the Thanksgiving table.  Then for Christmas, I morphed the wreath into a giant peace sign to compliment the marquee letters you saw here yesterday.  Finally, I decided that the flowers would make adorable bows for gifts.

Naturally, I had to pretty all my packages.  Like last year, I stuck to simple wrapping patterns, plain kraft paper, polka dotted kraft paper (I bought mine from Target a while back, but here's a great DIY tutorial) and added some shine with foil wood-grain paper, also from Target.  And each box is dressed with a flower and a hand embossed velvet ribbon for a tag (tutorial here).  I hope the recipients love them as much as I do.

Christmas Around Here

It's the most wonderful time of the year and our little apartment is filled with tons of Christmas cheer.  I love every December when I get out my vintage bulbs and glittered deer.  I added some new details this year, including the beautiful gold garland I found on discount post Christmas last year and the marquee peace letters from Target.  I went a little paper flower crazy this year, but more on that tomorrow.

Weekend Rewind

Despite the less-than-ideal weather conditions, we got out and had a great weekend in this great city.  Friday, we cozied on the couch and ordered in pizza, and readied ourselves for the rest of the weekend.  The snow came in fast and lasted all Saturday, but that didn't stop the hundreds of drunk Santas out participating in Santa Con, nor did it stop us from enjoying a date night to the IFC Theater.  We continued our holiday tradition and caught a showing of "It's a Wonderful Life," followed by dinner in the West Village.

Sunday I baked.  And baked.  And baked.  And when I wasn't in the kitchen, we went out to Brooklyn for DeSmitten's holiday brunch party.  It was a lovely afternoon with lots and lots of food and great friends.  And just like that, it's back to the grind.
