Our Wedding (Decor)

I love bright colors.  I love to wear them, I love them in my home, so when we started planning our wedding, I knew it would be no different, a cheerful, bright party.  One of the first details I decided I wanted through out the decor was the ribbon detail.  So, after I made my wedding color palette,  I began buying yards of fabric in the palette.  I cut dozens of yards of fabric into ribbons, definitely wasn't the easy way, but it was the economical way to incorporate thousands of ribbons.


The decor for the ceremony was pretty simple.  Kyle's dad built us the arch and we stapled floor-length ribbons.  Originally they were not going to be tied back like curtains, but it was just too windy.  Instead of using expensive floral arrangements on the aisle, we hung ribbons to add color and movement. We also strung cafe lights across the deck to give some ambiance.  


My favorite deco detail was definitely the disco ball and the ribbon installation on the ceiling.  I used a large cross stitch hoop in the center and radiated the ribbons out to gold painted hangers.  We also strung cafe lights in the dining room.


We live in New York, so we knew we wanted to incorporate that somehow.  The place cards I designed were drawn from actual New York City buildings and give a nod to my original blog header.  Remember this?  When we first got engaged we didn't think we were going to get engagement photos, so we got an engagement caricature instead.   How silly is that?



We didn't leave out any detail, in the area we made colorful drink flags each with a the phrase for "cheers" from the different places we have traveled.  I hand painted bunting flags to hang above the bar and we called our signature cocktail the "Spartan Cooler" to give a nod to alma mater and the place where we met.


The guest napkins were another DIY and doubled as favors.  I used the same screen printing technique that I used for the guest welcome bags (tutorial here).


The cake table was one of the most special details of our wedding.  We proudly displayed all of our parents and grandparents wedding photos and three of our five cake toppers came from their wedding cakes!  The other two were collected at flea markets during our engagement.  


Another special detail was our guestbook table and photobooth.  We gave guests a look down memory lane, as we strung baby photos from each of our childhoods, as well as a row of photos together.  I highly recommend having a photobooth for any wedding.  You capture the best memories and get to see a side of your family and in-laws you may have never seen before.  Shutterbooth did an amazing job with ours.
